Acaulescent plants, or sometimes with stem, 0.5–0.8 m long, decumbent or erect; rosettes solitary or suckering to form groups; with persistent dried leaves. Leaves densely rosulate, green with slight bluish to reddish tinge, without spots or sometimes with spots in young plants, deltoid, 40–55 cm long, 13–15 cm wide; margin whitish or pinkish cartilaginous, with deltoid pale pink or brown-tipped teeth, 3–5 mm long, 10–15 mm apart; exudate drying yellow. Inflorescence 0.6–0.8 m long, erect, compactly 5–12-branched from about middle. Racemes cylindric-conic, 12–25 cm long, 5–6 cm wide, dense; buds hidden by large imbricate bracts. Floral bracts 10–16 mm long, 3–6 mm wide. Pedicels 11–20 mm long. Flowers: perianth scarlet, paler tipped, 18–25 mm long, 6 mm across ovary, rather staight or widening slightly towards wide-open and slightly upturned mouth, cylindric-trigonous; outer segments free for 5–7 mm; stamens exserted 1–2 mm; style exserted to 3 mm. Fruit a capsule.
